SMBC hosts a 10-week Summer Intern Program for undergraduate students who will have the opportunity to work on teams, be exposed to significant firm-wide projects within their respective business areas and support a range of deals with our clients. The Legal-Policy Department accepts one to two Gender, Sexuality & Reproductive Justice Interns per term. This is a hybrid position, requiring both remote and in-person work in the Chicago office. Experience: All fields are required. Our internships are paid opportunities with a competitive hourly wage. College student interns will provide the detention team with operational support, including event planning and data management for programs and grants. Must be actively enrolled in a U.S. accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required), Must be a rising Junior, Senior or Graduate Student (18 years or older), Must be in academic good standing (2.8 or above GPA). Keeps up-to-date knowledge of new stories, finds and marshal reliable sources and communicates effectively with internal stakeholders. Law student interns may also work on practice advisories and other projects relating to detention and the immigration consequences of criminal convictions. The Immigration Judges preside over formal immigration hearings. The preferred internship duration is 12 to 13 weeks with a 10-week minimum requirement. Law students may also conduct legal research, draft legal briefs and memos, and may have the opportunity to appear in court. Eligibility: Internships are available to students who will be Juniors, Seniors, or Masters students in the fall of 2023.
